About Me and Thrive with Dr Bal

I am Dr Satinder Bal, a Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology with more than 30 years of experience in medicine and 22 years in medical education. I qualified from the University of Glasgow in 1992 and was appointed Consultant at Raigmore Hospital Inverness in 2003. My journey has been defined by clinical excellence and a heartfelt commitment to helping people thrive.

Thrive with Dr Bal: Your Path to Sustainable Wellbeing

  • I have held senior leadership roles in medical education with both NHS Education Scotland and NHS Highland. With NHS Education Scotland, I served as Associate Postgraduate Dean for Quality. Within NHS Highland, I held the positions of Associate Director of Medical Education and Deputy Director of Medical Education. For more than 22 years I have mentored, supervised, and coached junior doctors, shaping the standards of training across NHS Scotland and inspiring healthcare professionals to deliver person‑centred care with integrity and compassion.

  • My specialist work focuses on diabetes and endocrinology. I have particular expertise in adolescent care, obstetric services, insulin pump therapy, and supporting people navigating menopause and chronic hormonal conditions. Every consultation I deliver is grounded in evidence‑based medicine and compassion, empowering patients to make meaningful lifestyle changes that improve long‑term wellbeing.

  • In 2012 I faced and overcame personal burnout. That experience transformed my approach to medicine and coaching, inspiring me to create Thrive with Dr Bal. I understand firsthand the impact of stress and overwhelm, and I wanted to build a programme that goes beyond treatment to genuine transformation. Thrive with Dr Bal blends lifestyle medicine, positive psychology, and structured coaching to help individuals unlock their potential and achieve sustainable wellbeing.

  • Using the learning from my diploma in coaching and positive psychology, I guide clients on a journey to lasting wellbeing, greater resilience and meaningful change.  My approach blends science-backed tools from positive psychology with real-world coaching strategies that empowers clients to overcome burnout, restore balance, and reignite their motivation for life and work.

I offer personalised 1:1 coaching, self guided online programmes and small group courses focused on boosting energy, preventing burnout and helping clients thrive.  Sessions are delivered online in a safe, confidential space where clients can reconnect with their values, navigate challenges and set purposeful goals.

  • I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (FRCP Glas) and have served as a Regional Advisor. I am also a certified Positive Psychology coach, combining clinical expertise with coaching knowledge. My charity work in India delivering cancer screening and public health education reflects my commitment to serving communities worldwide.

  • My aim is to make evidence‑based wellbeing support accessible through 1:1 coaching, small groups, and digital programmes, so more people can access practical help wherever they are.  Guided by compassion, integrity, and person‑centred care, I ensure every client feels truly heard and empowered.

  • “Having someone fully engaged and invested in coaching, with the skill to help you work out your issues and make lasting change, is incredibly valuable. It really does help to unlock your potential.”

    Shona, Inverness

  • “I arrived with a general feeling of overwhelm that was holding me back. You listened and asked questions that allowed me to clarify my thoughts. By creating achievable goals and giving me accountability, I implemented small but effective changes that had an exponential impact. My mindset shifted and I felt completely different at the end of the sessions. I had clarity, an ongoing plan, and felt much more organised and productive.”

    Sandra, Inverness

  • “At the beginning of each session you set the scene nicely and helped me settle my mind. Despite my anxiety you skilfully drew out themes and invited me to explore them. I enjoyed the space you gave me to articulate my thoughts which helped crystalise them. I feel very lucky for that.”
