Professional Agency
Resilience and self-coaching skills for early-career professionals.
A practical workshop for graduates, newly qualified professionals, medical students, and resident doctors. Builds the foundations of sustainable performance, self-awareness, self-coaching, speaking up safely, and managing energy, at the start of a career, not after a crisis.
Built for the first 12 months
For people in their first 1–3 years of professional life: graduates, apprentices, medical students entering clinical placements, foundation and resident doctors, and newly qualified professionals across health, education, corporate, and the public sector.
Where Thrive Again supports those already depleted, Professional Agency intervenes earlier, embedding self-regulation, boundary-setting, and sustainable performance habits before unhealthy patterns calcify.
Choose the format that fits your cohort

- GROW self-coaching framework for stuck moments
- Early warning signs of depletion in yourself
- A simple energy-management approach for shift-based or high-demand roles
- Personal action plan for your first 12 months
Best for
Graduate cohorts, foundation doctor groups, and structured early-career programmes where the organisation wants more than self-management. Where it wants to protect psychological safety and reduce early exit rates.
Everything in the half-day, plus:
- Speaking up safely — raising concerns, asking for help, and the practical mechanics of psychological safety
- Boundary scripts — saying no, managing expectations, protecting development time
- Professional identity work — values alignment and understanding your why
- Peer practice on real scenarios from your role
Burnout doesn’t start at mid-career
39% of 18–24 year olds experienced a mental health issue in the past year. One in four new hires loses psychological safety within their first year of work, and that loss can take 20+ years to recover (Edmondson et al., Harvard Business School, 2024). By the time someone reaches a wellbeing programme aimed at experienced staff, the patterns are well established.
Professional Agency works further upstream. It gives early-career people the language, tools, and self-coaching skills to recognise pressure for what it is, ask for what they need, and build a career that lasts..
Not another induction module
Most early-career wellbeing content tells people to look after themselves and signposts an EAP. Professional Agency teaches them the actual skills, a self-coaching framework they can use in stuck moments, scripts for speaking up safely, a way to separate what they can control from what they can’t, and a working understanding of their own energy.
It’s designed by a Consultant Physician with 30+ years of NHS experience and 20+ years of supporting resident doctors in training. The tools are clinical, practical, and tested.
Grounded in established research
Drawing on positive psychology, polyvagal theory, the GROW coaching model, Self-Determination Theory, and Edmondson’s work on psychological safety, translated into exercises, frameworks, and case-based practice rather than theory lectures. Full reference list available on request.
